First: Investigation of complex fires, focussing on arson … from Les Vearing, Senior Fire Investigator with Forest Fire Management (a division of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action in Victoria). Les has decades of experience with fire investigations, many of which have involved complex arson matters. Les will be presenting remotely.
Second (and in-person): an anti-terrorism investigation arising from a routine but intriguing wildfire investigation, to be presented by Detective Leading Senior Constable Kirsten Scott. Operation Loonbeck resulted in terrorism charges being brought against two individuals. Kirsten has had 14 years with Victoria Police, 5 years as a Detective with Counter Terrorism, working on a variety of offences both in Australia and overseas. She completed a graduate certificate in Terrorism and Security Studies at Charles Sturt University. Don’t miss this interesting and intriguing case study of an event that would normally not be presented in the public domain.
